wedding + twin peaks

Wow...last night was the most eccentric lds wedding reception I have ever been to. Julie and Alex were married on St. Patrick's day in the SLC Temple. Ryan and I were invited to attend their sit down dinner reception at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

We arrived to the reception a little after 7pm. It was packed and there were only four seats left right at the table by the entrance. I got to sit with Julie's old BYU roommate- Sara who I also knew back in the day, it was good to see her. We chatted about Devin of course...Sara's old boyfriend at the Y. Sara is now married & 6 months pregnant living in Wisconsin. Here is a pic of Sara and Julie's BYU roommates I didn't know:

Julie instructed everyone via email earlier this week to "take pictures of people at your table with the disposible camera." Ryan followed instructions and took lots of pics.

The theme of the wedding was "Twin Peaks". Julie had told me via email that she had a forest, woodsy themed wedding. She said that it was because of Twin Peaks...and that most people would probably not get it. (This girl loves David Lynch and if you ask her...she will tell you about the time she ran after David at Sundance with her tap shoes and how she met and danced with the midget from Twin Peaks at a goth club in LA.) Her centerpieces all had roses and a deer. I got to take home a deer to remember Julie's big day.

Jared Gold, famous fashion designer, and also Julie's roommate made her dress and the bridesmaids' dresses. (BTW, Jared is going to be a guest designer on American's top model show this coming wednesday.) Jared and his co designer friend Matty created the "DEER" design that was put on the bottom of the dresses.

This is Julie and her friend... you can see her dress better in this pic.

After everyone was invited to get their food. Julie & Alex and their families took center stage. Julie started off talking about how single she was for years and how she finally met Alex. Her siblings and his siblings were also asked to say a few words.

Anyway, Ryan went crazy with the video clips. He caught the bit where Julie explain her Theme and how she met Alex. But unfortunately the video clips are HUGE to download!! I need to figure out a way of making it smaller and posting it somewhere so you can see it.

For the entertainment, Julie's dad played "ragtime" piano music. Now I know where Julie gets her quirkyness / eccentricity...she tapdances to hiphop and her dad plays ragtime music at all his children's receptions. Alex also joined in on a song with his guitar and both father and new son in law jammed in front of all their guests.

I tried taking a picture of the bride and the groom...but somehow julie's father in law got in it too.

I got to see and chat with a long time friend, Heidi.
Heidi did my makeup for my wedding 6 years ago. She now lives in LA and is also expecting her first baby. Heidi is married to Rus who I also know from the Y. Heidi was also impressed with Ryan's hair. She told him that he looked like Nick Cave.

At the end of the night, Alex came over and we chatted. Ryan caught this shot....I really like Alex. He has a great DRYsense of humor. I think Alex likes Ryan and I too...he happily waved at us when we first came to his reception.

Overall, I thought Julie and Alex both looked very happy. Julie looked great in her dress and I'm glad that she was happy with Jared's design. I wish Alex and Julie the best. I believe she said that were just going down to southern Utah for their honeymoon. Thank you Julie for inviting us to share in your joy. I will for sure never forget it.
